Third-party scripts can provide analytics, chat, video or other functions, but each one creates another dependency. Record what a script does, who owns the account and why the website needs it. Remove abandoned tools through a controlled review rather than letting old integrations accumulate.
A practical approach
Consider behaviour as well as download size. A script may change layout, collect data or introduce a visible interface. Review its privacy requirements with the appropriate people and test the page when the provider is slow or unavailable.
Your checklist
- Maintain an inventory of embedded services.
- Assign an owner to each integration.
- Test key journeys with optional tools unavailable.
For example
A contact page should still explain how to reach the business if a chat service does not load. Making chat the only contact route ties a basic customer task to an external dependency.
